Tired of spectacles? Intolerant of contact lenses? You do not need to wait for cataract to have lens replacement surgery. Sometimes, technically good cataract surgery elsewhere does not meet expectations. You may not have been offered a full range of vision implant or had an outcome that was not expected. Floaters, also known as "mouches volantes", are extremely common and can mostly be ignored. Occasionally, they can be so large as to be quite distressing and even dangerous. With modern surgical technology, we can clear floaters with a very short recovery time and minimal disturbance to the surface of the eye to provide the relief that our patients desire. This surgery is often combined with lens replacement.

Ageing brings a number of changes inside the eye. Epiretinal membrane is common and causes wrinkling of the central portion of the retina called the macula. Patients with significant epiretinal membrane usually report distortion of images occurring slowly and progressively. Surgery for removal of epiretinal membrane provides an improvement in the quality of vision and stability of function which can be important for tasks like driving. Missed epiretinal membrane can be a source of dissatisfaction after cataract surgery.
